King senior Chris Biuso is one of the top boys golfers in Hillsborough County. He was the Class 2A-District 11 medalist as a junior, and earlier this season shot a season-best 5 under par in a nine-hole match at Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club.
What's the best thing about the game of golf compared to any other sport?
The best thing about golf is that you don't need teammates to practice or play, it's all basically on own shoulders and I can control everything. You can always go out there and get better on your own and at any time. You don't need a whole bunch of people to help you play.
If you had to play 18 holes with just one club, what club would it be and why?
I actually do that every once in a while. Me and my friend, sometimes we buy glow in the dark golf balls and sneak out on the course at night. The club I always play with is a 6-iron. It's just long enough to reach most of the par 4s in two shots, and it is more or less pretty versatile with chipping, and you can putt with it. You can really hit every shot with it except sand shots.
Well, that's a better answer than I expected. Do you keep score? What's the best you've shot?
We always keep score. We play from the ladies tees, (and) I think my low was like an 88, and with no putter. I think I had a birdie and like five or six pars or something like that.
King has the second-most individual state champions in Florida high school boys golf history. Is there a chance you could add your name to that list?
I would definitely like for that to happen. That is one of my main goals, as it is every year and as it should be. I hope I just play well and get to states, and then we'll see what happens when I do that. I know I'm capable of doing it. It's just a matter of doing it.
Name your dream foursome?
I'd have to say Tiger Woods, I guess, because how often would you get a chance to play with him. And then I guess I'd just pick two of my friends, probably Marc Hensel, who graduated from King, and I'd pick Daniel Dumala former Tampa Prep standout.
