PLANT CITY - Christmas isn't that far away, and a nonprofit group that helps farmworkers is taking orders for Christmas cards featuring artwork of youngsters in its programs.
The Redlands Christian Migrant Association hopes to net $20,000 from its ninth annual Christmas card sale, association spokesman Matt Bokor says in an e-mail.
Advance orders are being accepted through Nov. 1 for cards and other items being sold to help the organization, which provides child care and early education for more than 7,000 children in rural Florida.
The cards include reproductions of drawings of Santa Claus, angels, Christmas trees and other holiday scenes. The art on several of the cards is by youngsters in the association's programs in Wimauma.
The Christmas cards start at $15 plus shipping for a box of 10. Cards featuring company names are available at higher prices.
Printing costs have been offset by $10,000 in donations from companies that include DiMare, Ruskin; Hillsborough County Farm Bureau, Tampa; and Wishnatzki Farms, Plant City.
To receive a brochure by mail, call the organization's state headquarters in Immokalee at 1-800-282-6540.
Florida's largest nonprofit child care and early education provider, Redlands operates about 70 centers, including in Plant City.
Founded in 1965 in the Redlands farming area of Miami-Dade County, the migrant group is funded by local, state and federal grants and donations from individuals and organizations.
