GAINESVILLE University of Florida S Bryan Thomas may not be as questionable for Saturday's game as coach Urban Meyer originally thought.
Thomas, a Zephyrhills graduate, sprained his knee during the Troy game Sept. 8 and hasn't played since.
Meyer said Wednesday that Thomas practiced and will be on-call this weekend for special teams. The redshirt freshman will not play defense, though.
"He was really coming on before he got hurt, so that name will surface again," Meyer said.
CALDWELL IMPROVES: Senior WR Andre Caldwell still likely won't play against Auburn, but Meyer was impressed with the Tampa native's production at practice.
"Bubba looked terrific," Meyer said. "[His status has changed] in my mind, but not in the doctors' minds."
On Monday and Tuesday, Caldwell left practice early with fellow WR Percy Harvin to receive treatment for their injuries. However, on Wednesday, Caldwell stayed until the end of practice and walked out in full pads with the rest of the team.
Caldwell sprained his knee against Troy, and Harvin suffered a bruised hip against Mississippi.
THOMPSON MIGHT PLAY: Freshman WR Deonte Thompson might play for the first time this season on Saturday.
"I don't want to say something that's not going to happen, but as of right now, there's a chance he's going to play," Meyer said.
Rumors circulated about two weeks ago that Thompson was considering a transfer to Miami because of lack of playing time, but Meyer nixed the talk, saying that Thompson told him he was happy at Florida.
"It takes guys a minute to learn how to play at SEC speed," Meyer said. "He's got it. He just hasn't played at it. He's starting to play at it."
