Chamberlain senior Krista West swims in four different events, which leaves just enough time for her to participate in just about every student activity she can find.
So just how many student activities are you involved in besides swimming?
I'm sports editor of the yearbook, I'm a member of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), Key International, NHS (National Honor Society), Beta, Mu Alpha Theta, Elite, all those fun and interesting clubs. I used to be a member of the Town and Country Youth Council, but I quit that last year because I had a lot on my plate.
Why are you involved in so many activities?
I think I'm involved for a few reasons. Yes, stuff like that looks good on a college application. But I also do it because I like interacting with different people and being organized and having something to do. I'm going to different events and being active in all of them. I just like those things. I like having something to do.
What's your favorite activity outside of swimming?
I'd say FCA and Key International. I really like FCA, just because I like going to the club and having that same interest with everyone there. They all play sports and they understand where I'm coming from. We also have the same outlook on faith. I like Key International because all my friends are in there. It's fun to get together and work on service projects.
How did you end up in yearbook?
My freshman year I joined yearbook because I wanted to take a journalism class, but they only offered this instead. I thought it might be fun. I wanted to be involved in something - I was just starting out. I liked it and this year I wanted to be an editor. I thought being sports editor would be really fun.
So how much space will swimming get in the yearbook this year?
Laughter. It'll get just as much space as it usually does. I don't think my adviser will like it if I put a lot of swimming in there. But it will be in color. Actually, it's usually in color. But I made a joke to her earlier today how swimming had to be in color because it's going to be the most amazing page ever. She just said, 'OK, Krista, whatever.'
