LARGO - Two women were arrested Wednesday on animal cruelty charges after they left a Dachshund and a Pomeranian outdoors in a small crate without any water for more than two hours.
The Dachshund died in the crate, said Lt. Mike Loux, of the Largo Police Department.
Shannon M. Nichols, 22, and Rachelle L. Jamison, 22, of 1676 Whispering Drive West, both were charged one count of animal cruelty and one count of animal cruelty involving death, Pinellas County jail records show.
The animals appeared to have suffered from exposure and dehydration, authorities said.
