As a Buccaneer season ticket holder and a veteran of both Gulf Wars, our national anthem is a highlight of every game. Everybody knows to take their hat off during the anthem, but sometimes people forget and I feel it's my job to help remind people, like I had to do last Sunday.
I politely motioned to a corpulent Bucs fan to remove his hat and was quickly assaulted with obscenities. After the flyover, I politely reminded my obese friend that he should remove his hat during the anthem, which was once again met with obscenities.
I can't believe that someone would refuse to show the slightest amount of respect for his country and would curse a veteran when asked to remove his hat. If nothing else, let this just be a reminder to the community: When the anthem plays, stand up, remove your hat and show some respect.
