TAMPA - Police are honoring a woman for "putting herself in harm's way" by helping two young sisters who authorities say were being menaced by a man as they walked to their school bus stop four weeks ago.

Sharonda Wilson was driving down 15th Street near 113th Avenue about 6 a.m. Aug. 31 when she saw two girls being pursued by a man, said Janelle McGregor, spokeswoman for the Tampa Police Department.

The man was running after the girls, saying, "Come here. I'm going to get you," McGregor said.

Wilson stopped her car and told the 14- and 15-year-old to get . She then confronted the man, McGregor said. A police officer saw the confrontation and arrested Noel Toledano, 42, of 1260 E. 113th Ave.,, charging him with two counts of assault.

Wilson received a citizen award this morning for her bravery, McGregor said. "What she did was very selfless."
