Unexpected Faces, Unexpected Places, a public awareness campaign sponsored by the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County, kicked off on the steps of the old federal courthouse in Tampa on Thursday.
The event was attended by representatives from federal, state and local government offices; faith-based groups; and social service agencies such as the Salvation Army.
The coalition estimates there are about 9,500 homeless men, women and children in Hillsborough County.
