McBride Joins Clinton Campaign

TAMPA - Prominent attorney Bill McBride, one half of Tampa's leading Democratic power couple, has joined Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign for president, the campaign announced Thursday.

McBride, former managing partner of the huge Holland & Knight law firm, is a longtime key financial supporter for Florida Democratic candidates. He was an unsuccessful candidate for governor against then-incumbent Gov. Jeb Bush in 2002.

He is also the husband of Alex Sink, a retired banker who is now Florida's chief financial officer - one of two Democrats holding statewide elective offices, along with U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.

Asked whether the McBride endorsement means the Clinton campaign also hopes for Sink's support, campaign spokesman Mo Elleithee responded, 'We are only announcing Bill McBride today.'

McBride, who won the Bronze Star in combat in Vietnam, will be a member of Clinton's National Veterans and Military Retirees Steering Committee, the campaign said in a news release.
