TAMPA - Hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa, pop icon Madonna and rock instrumentalists The Ventures are among the 2008 nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the hall announced Friday.
Other nominees include punk rockers turned hip-hop trio the Beastie Boys; disco favorites Chic and Donna Summer; poet, author and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen; British Invasion hit-makers The Dave Clark Five; and roots-rocker John Mellencamp.
Five nominees will be chosen by 500 voters for induction. The ceremony is set March 10 at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York.
