Police Investigate Overnight Shooting

PLANT CITY - Police are investigating the attempted murder of a 23-year-old man who was shot late Friday night.

Jesus Rodriguez was critically injured while riding in a white Cadillac by the occupants of another vehicle, possibly an older grey Cadillac, police said. The shooting took place in the area of Thonotosassa Road and Interstate 4, possibly starting at or near the Race Trac convenience store on Thonotosassa Road, police said.

Police learned of the incident about 11:15 p.m., after responding to South Florida Baptist Hospital about a man shot.

South Florida Baptist Hospital said Rodriguez was transferred to Bayfront Medical Center In St. Petersburg. His condition there could not be immediately determined.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time and seen anything suspicious is asked to call police at 813-757-9200.
