LAKELAND - A Saturday morning home invasion at a marijuana "grow house" left a woman wounded and facing charges, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Aymara Irsula Eloy was shot in the incident, sheriff's office spokeswoman Donna Wood said.
The unidentified assailant or assailants broke into Eloy's home at 7520 E. Floral Circle with the intent of stealing some of the marijuana plants deputies discovered when they responded to a report of the shooting, Wood said.
Eloy was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition.
She and another resident of the home, Jorge Parra, both were charged with cultivation, trafficking and conspiracy to traffic in marijuana, plus maintaining a dwelling for drug use, Wood said. She said the felonies carry a minimum mandatory prison time of 10 years, and additional charges may follow. The suspects' ages were not available.
More than 20 marijuana grow houses have been discovered in Polk County this year, Wood said. It's a trend made more worrisome by the escalation to violence in this case, she said.
