PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers apparently doesn't like being in the Top 10.
Backup quarterback Chris Turner led three second-half scoring drives, Keon Lattimore rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown and Maryland's defense shut down Ray Rice and No. 10 Rutgers' high-powered offense in a stunning 34-24 victory Saturday.

It marked the second straight year Rutgers was upset after getting into the Top 10. Last year, Cincinnati surprised the Scarlet Knights a week after they reached No. 7 following an upset of then-No. 3 Louisville.

This year it was Maryland (3-2), which had dropped two straight games and was coming off a disheartening 31-24 overtime loss to Wake Forest, a game in which the Terps blew a 24-3 third-quarter lead.

Maryland squandered a 14-3 lead late in the second quarter in this one, but rallied in the second half behind Turner, getting field goals of 26 and 37 yards from an erratic Obi Egekeze, a 2-yard TD run by Lattimore and a late 14-yard dash by Lance Ball, who rushed 90 yards and two touchdowns.

LOUISVILLE 29, NORTH CAROLINA STATE 10: Louisville's maligned defense forced a season-high five turnovers and the Cardinals (3-2) overcame Brian Brohm's least productive performance of the season to beat host North Carolina State (1-4).

Brock Bolen rushed for a career-high 112 yards and a touchdown, as the Cardinals ground game rolled up 247 yards to help take the pressure off Brohm and avoid yet another shootout.

Brohm followed his career-high 555-yard output last week vs. Syracuse by completing 20 of 33 for 251 yards - his lowest yardage total since Rutgers held him to 163 in November.

CONNECTICUT 44, AKRON 10: Andre Dixon ran for 116 yards and Tyvon Branch ran a kickoff back 97 yards for a touchdown to spark undefeated Connecticut past visiting Akron.

The 5-0 start is the best for a UConn team since 1995 when the Huskies went 6-0 as a Division I-AA school.

Akron (2-3) had a 10-9 lead with 4:04 left in the first half after a 6-yard TD pass from Chris Jacquemain to Jabari Arthur, but didn't score again.

Connecticut quarterback Tyler Lorenzen completed 17 of 26 passes for 203 yards with an interception and two touchdown passes. One of those went to Dixon, who also had a 55-yard touchdown run.

MIAMI (OHIO) 17, SYRACUSE 14: Cory Jones scored his first two career touchdowns as host Miami (Ohio) snapped a seven-game home losing streak.

The senior carried 12 times for 125 yards to lead the RedHawks (2-3) to their second win in six games against Big East teams.

Syracuse (1-4), coming off a 38-35 road upset of then-No. 18 Louisville, had won 14 consecutive games against Mid-American Conference teams dating to a 22-7 loss to Bowling Green on Sept. 11, 1976. The Orangemen were 3-0 against the RedHawks.
