DALLAS - Tampa Bay ended the preseason with a thud, dropping a 5-1 decision to Dallas on Saturday to end the exhibition season with a 2-2-1 record.
Marc Denis started in goal and allowed four goals on 14 shots in 28:39 of action before being replaced by Johan Holmqvist, as scheduled, midway through the second period.
Three of the goals scored against Denis were deflected, including one that went in off the glove of D Doug Janik, and another when Niklas Hagman was left alone in the slot. Holmqvist stopped 17 of 18 shots, only surrendering a power-play goal to Brendan Morrow.
Shane O'Brien scored the Lightning's only goal on a first-period power play as All-Star Marty Turco stopped 22 of 23 shots he faced for the Stars.
O'Brien's goal at 4:53 of the first tied the game at 1, but Dallas finished with four unanswered goals, including a pair on the power play.
MORE INJURIES: D Paul Ranger sustained a mild bruise to his right shoulder in the first period and was held out the rest of the way for precautionary reasons. In addition, LW Nick Tarnasky suffered a broken nose in a first-period fight with Krystofer Barch and did not return, although he is not expected to miss any time.
C Chris Gratton, meanwhile, missed his fourth consecutive game with a corneal abrasion of his left eye. Though he continues to get better and is practicing with the team, he is still encountering issues with depth perception as the scar tissue continues to heal. C Vinny Lecavalier returned after sitting out the past two games with an undisclosed upper-body injury.
POKER FOR CHARITY: The Lightning will hold their annual Glitz and Sticks charity event at on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. on the ice inside the St. Pete Times Forum. The event features Tampa Bay players serving as celebrity blackjack dealers and spinning the roulette wheel.
Tickets are $250 with sponsorships available for $1,500, which includes a special meet-and-greet cocktail party with players and staff at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit The Tampa General Hospital Foundation and the Lightning Foundation.

PRESEASON SPECIAL: Sun Sports will air a Lightning season preview special at 8 p.m. Monday.
The one-hour special, hosted by Paul Kennedy, features a state-of-the-team interview with GM Jay Feaster, a feature on the Marty St. Louis-Vinny Lecavalier duo, an interview with Coach John Tortorella and a look at everything new with the team this year, from the new logo to the new overhead scoreboard and the new faces.
The show will re-air at the following dates and times: Monday at 11:30 p.m., Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., and Thursday at noon and 6 p.m.
NUTS AND BOLTS: RW Andre Roy and Tarnasky each engaged in fights on consecutive faceoffs for the second time this preseason. ... The team will take today off before returning to practice Monday in preparation for the start of the regular season. ...
