DUNEDIN - The New Port Richey woman hit by a car on Tampa Road Saturday died today.
Deborah K. Carey, 48, died at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where she was flown after the accident, according to a nursing supervisor.
The accident happened on Tampa Road, just west of U.S. 19., shortly before 1 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The report gives the following account of what happened:
Carey stepped off a traffic median into oncoming traffic and was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Tampa Road.
Irene Arakas-Psomos of Palm Harbor tried to avoid Carey but couldn't. After hitting Carey, her vehicle got rear-ended.
Carey sustained head and internal injuries. No charges have been filed in the incident, according to the FHP.
