Here are several items you should know before arranging for your next move:
1. Movers may give binding estimates. This means you cannot be required to pay more than the amount of the estimate. However, there may be a charge involved for this.
2. Non-binding estimates may not be accurate. Actual charges may often exceed the estimate. There is no charge for this estimate.
3. Specify pick up and delivery dates in the order for service.
4. The bill of lading is your contract with the mover. Read it carefully. If you have any questions, ask your mover or call the Interstate Commerce Commission.
5. Be sure you understand the extent of your mover's liability for loss and damage.
6. You have the right to be present each time your shipment is weighed.
7. You may request a reweigh of your shipment.
8. If you have moved on a non-binding estimate, you should have enough cash or a certified check to pay the estimate cost of your move plus 10% more at time of delivery.
9. If you have any questions, contact the Interstate Commerce Commission at 3535 Market Street, Room 16400, Philadelphia, PA 19104, Attn: Complaint Center (215) 596-4040
