Plant's No. 3 Player A Whiz At Math

Published: April 2, 2008

Brenton D'Adamo, Plant's No. 3 player, has been making an impact on the Panthers this season, according to Coach Michael McWilliams.

McWilliams said D'Adamo has been quick to step up if needed to play at a higher level in the absence of other players.

But the court isn't the only place D'Adamo is excelling. The freshman won a regional competition in the Mathematical Association of America's American Mathematics Competition AMC 10.

According to the AAM's Web site, "the AMC 10 is a 25-question, 75-minute multiple choice examination, which contains problems that can be understood and solved with pre-calculus concepts."

PERFECT IN DISTRICT PLAY: Newsome's girls team beat every team in its district by a 7-0 score.

The Wolves (10-1) are looking forward to the district tournament, according to Coach Dave Peters.

Peters said the Wolves have played against a lot of the area's private schools. Peters doesn't know too much about the teams in the district tournament.

"In the past we knew what we were getting into," Peters said. "This year will be a challenge and now we don't exactly know too much about these teams."

Peters also said he has been impressed by his freshman No. 3 player, Jackie Watson, who is 10-0 this season.

ONE MORE MATCH: Melissa Narzissenfeld has recovered from a back injury that sidelined the Academy of the Holy Names No. 1 player for much of the season.

The senior has played in three matches but still needs to play in one more to be eligible for district play. AHN has had a tough season, going 5-7, but Coach Allen Liberato says he's seeing the team come together at the right time.

Liberato says the team has been playing much better tennis. AHN picked up a 6-1 win last week against Brandon and gave Newsome a tough challenge in a 4-3 loss. In the loss, however, Narzissenfeld had a good showing, beating Wolves No. 1 Alyssa Lafita, 6-3, 6-4.
