Scott Tapped To Lead Tampa City Council

TAMPA -- Tom Scott will serve as the new chairman of the Tampa City Council.

He takes the gavel from Gwen Miller, who has held the position since 2004.

Council members John Dingfelder, Mary Mulhern and Linda Saul-Sena supported Scott's nomination. Scott was first elected to the council last year but served as chairman of the Hillsborough County Commission three times.

Miller was elected vice chair of the city council. She also was elected chair of the Community Redevelopment Agency, which focuses on economic development in the city's most blighted areas. Mulhern will be vice chairwoman of the group.
