Shouldn't Have Run
Regarding "Final Four Gives Lesbians Forum To Celebrate Women" (front page, April 5):
I could not believe my eyes at this front-page headline. It was brought to my attention Friday evening as being the Saturday headline through the Internet copy of The Tampa Tribune, but I was adamant that our newspaper would not run such a sexist and low-class headline.
I believed this newspaper had much better taste and consideration for the numerous retirees and the, as yet, "Bible Belt" that we live in. Absolutely disgusting!

Wasn't Newsworthy
So this is front-page newsworthy Tribune news?
And for this we just renewed our annual subscription!
The Tribune really sanctions this behavior? Everything has to be politically correct and tolerated by all, but it does not have to be on the front page. This looks like a headline that you would find in the "tabloid section" of the grocery checkout line. We are constantly inundated with this in TV programs and other ways. And if you do not agree, you are not tolerant.

It's All About Ability
Your April 5 front-page story was certainly not welcoming to the fine student-athletes, coaches and staff members who visited Tampa this week for the NCAA Women's Final Four. The Tribune has lost sight of the fact that these competitions are solely about one thing: ability.
I doubt that the San Antonio newspapers have printed any articles that nickname the NCAA Men's Final Four as the "homosexual super bowl."

An Apology Is Due
This is a disgusting way to get attention in print. There is an apology due here. Do it!

Advancing An Agenda
The space given to this story is disgusting. Surely there are more newsworthy issues to be placed on your front page. To me it was unwarranted, with the only purpose to advance the homosexual agenda.
Shame on the Tribune for promoting this lifestyle by your space granted to it. In doing so you have placed yourself against Almighty God who says it is an abomination to Him, regardless of what many in any society may find acceptable behavior. I prefer to stand with Him.

Blame It On Michiganders
Regarding "Voting In Florida Is A Joke" (Commentary, March 30):
I enjoyed Dave Barry's March 30 column immensely. I am sure that he chose Minnesota over Michigan as his example state for an obvious reason. I would like to apologize to you Floridians for the dismal state of the Democrat Party in Florida. I am convinced that it is caused by all the AARP Michiganders who have migrated to your warm climate over the last couple of decades.
As you can tell by the state of the Democrat Party in Michigan, we have not gotten rid of all the morons yet. So, along with my apology I want to thank you for the continued open door.

Thanks For Barry Column
Once again my day was made special with your publishing the column by Dave Barry. It has been a long time since his last review of the past year and all the laughs I had reading it. Hopefully, this will not be the last.
Barry is right when he writes that "more than half of Floridians do not know how to use their turn signals. How can they be expected to use a mechanical voting machine."
In place of the three candidates now running for president of this great nation, like Barry, I will vote for Lewis Black.

A Preacher's Words
Judging from the March 30 letters, many Tribune readers feel Barack Obama's pastor's incendiary remarks disqualify Obama from the presidency and mark him as a possible anti-Semite or covert Louis Farrakhan admirer.
I wonder if those readers are aware of this statement: "A lot of Jews are great friends of mine, but they don't know how I really feel about what they're doing to this country."
It wasn't Obama's pastor who said that. The statement was made in the Oval Office to a sitting U.S. president, Richard Nixon, by revered evangelist Billy Graham, who has served as spiritual advisor to every recent president and tens of millions of Americans.
Did their spiritual advisor's apparent bigotry disqualify Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, both Bushes and Clinton? If not, why not? Because that statement doesn't fairly represent the totality of Graham's ministry?
Think about it.

Shouldn't Be An Issue
Regarding "No Need To Read Racism Into Vogue Cover" (Our Opinion, April 1):
I read with amusement your editorial, wondering why this sort of thing is even an issue.
LeBron James seems far more interested in basketball than in Gisele Bundchen; and Bundchen was "jubilant," undoubtedly because of the enormous fee she commands for the Vogue cover.
All men and women are human beings, subject to the same virtues and vices. This is called human nature, which has remained unchanged throughout recorded history.
I heartily concur with the editorial's conclusion: "Being honest about our differences... and not fanning the flames of division by seeing racism where there is none." Now, let's see if this holds true the next time the Confederate battle flag is displayed.
