TAMPA - The Internal Revenue Service announced today that it will extend hours of local offices to help taxpayers meet the April 15 filing deadline.
The extended hours at local IRS offices are:
Regular office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Free assistance will be available to retirees, disabled veterans and others filing a tax return solely to receive an economic stimulus payment.
Eligible taxpayers must file a return in order to receive the stimulus payments of up to $600 — and up to $1,200 for married couples filing jointly. There is another payment of $300 for each qualifying child younger than 17.
Taxpayers with questions about the stimulus payments can call (866) 234-2942. For general information and tax law questions, taxpayers should call (800) 829-1040.
Help is also available from IRS partners that operate 12,000 volunteer tax preparation sites nationwide. To find a nearby Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or Tax Counseling for the Elderly site, taxpayers can call (800) 906-9887.
