Regarding "Parents Get Crash Course In Hubris 101" (Our Opinion, April 7):
I am appalled by the Hillsborough County School Board's policy to not meet with parents who have questions about issues that impact their children, but to hear from them right before the board votes.
What point does meeting with them just prior to the vote serve? Board members have, at that point, probably already decided which way to vote. Are the members of the school board not elected by us as our representatives and as our liaisons to the school system?
This is a policy that needs to be changed immediately. I searched the school board Web site and could not find any policies, but I did find the following: "School board members do not keep regular office hours, but are accessible and can be contacted via e-mail, phone, or regular letter. They are also available to speak to groups and organizations."
Seems to me they need to remember that they are supposed to be accessible.
