TAMPA - The St. Pete Times Forum ranked as the highest-grossing venue in North America during February and March, according to a monthly trade publication that reports on facilities, concerts and other entertainment.

From Feb. 16 to March 15, the Forum grossed about $3.5 million in ticket sales, according to Venues Today. The Forum also ranked as the highest-grossing arena in Florida last year, with annual gross ticket sales of $32 million, Forum spokeswoman Nashira Babooram said in a news statement released today.

The study ranked all venues in the world with a capacity of more than 15,000 by actual ticket sales for concert events and family shows. The world's top grossing arena is the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with gross ticket sales of $4.6 million, according to the study.

The Forum placed higher than The Palace in Auburn Hills, Mich., which came in third, and the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., which ranked fourth.

"The rankings clearly demonstrate the strength of our market and our commitment to providing the biggest and best entertainment in the area," Forum president Ron Campbell said in the news release.

In March, the Forum hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament as well as the Mixed Martial Arts Event Xtreme Fighting Championships and the Blue Man Group.

The Forum was also the site of the NCAA Women's Final Four basketball tournament this month.

Concerts featuring Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam, Bon Jovi and Alicia Keys are scheduled for 2008.
