TAMPA A Bradenton man, who received support from a Reagan administration official and an actor who played a villain in James Bond movies, was sentenced this afternoon to 18 months in federal prison for his role in a scam.

Robert Armstrong, 60, must serve three years of probation after his prison sentence and share responsibility with two other defendants to pay victims $357,065 in restitution, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Former Reagan national security adviser Robert C. McFarlane credits Armstrong with helping persuade the president of Sudan to allow United Nations and African Union forces into Sudan.

Richard Kiel, who played the metal-toothed James Bond villain Jaws, says Armstrong has risked his life to bring Christianity to places such as Cuba and Nicaragua and was instrumental in encouraging Kiel to write his life story.

Armstrong pleaded guilty to involvement in a scam to bilk investors who bought blocks of flight time on charter airplanes.
