Mackinnon never gets a chance to compete in triathlons because he's too busy writing about them for Triathlon.com and Triathlon magazine.
Mackinnon is so busy, in fact, he may not compete in one for an entire year, which is a bit frustrating considering he used to be a professional triathlete.
In the late 1980s Mackinnon was good enough to win a few races.
"Now it seems when race directors find out that I might compete they call up and say, 'No,'" Mackinnon joked. "They don't want me competing in them, they want me writing about them."
That's why when he got a spot in St. Anthony's he was a little extra pumped up.
"It was a great day," Mackinnon said. "And this is a great event."
Mackinnon also proved he still has plenty of pep in his engine, finishing in 2:13:08.
