The Cambridge Christian baseball team is in the Dominican Republic this week on a week-long trip through SCORE International, an organization that for the past 23 years has taken players overseas on short-term mission trips. The Lancers arrived in the Dominican Republic on Monday and will return home Sunday.
Several Lancers players will be writing daily diary entries for TBO.com during their trip to relay their experiences. On Friday, junior Bryan Rizzetta wrote about a few more Lancers victories and the traffic troubles in the Dominican.
Today our team played at the SCORE International complex in Santo Domingo. We played two games and won both by a score of 11-1 each game, which makes our record 6-1.
In the first game, Michael Miller pitched four innings, giving up one run, one walk, with five strikeouts. The main highlight was a triple by Dylan Stearns down the right field line, and Chris Brown was able to score on that hit. In the second game, Derek Self pitched four innings, giving up one run, one walk, and six strikeouts. Josh Hanna went 3 for 4 with three singles with two RBIs. We did not have a Gospel presentation after the games so we left after our games.
Between our first and second game, we asked the other team if they wanted to go and play football. They said yes, and we went to the soccer field at SCORE complex and played a game. We had a blast playing with them and we all got closer.
I want to give a brief description on how the traffic is here in the Dominican. The roads are always busy and the traffic lights and stops are just suggestions for the drivers. Our bus driver, Alberto, has been taking us to all of our games this week. He is a funny guy and umpired our game on Thursday. He was really good and had a good time doing it.
He took a shortcut on our way back to the hotel that could be impossible to do in the [United] States; he and others are driving on the wrong side of the road. It was insane, but we made it back to the hotel. I thought that traffic was bad in New York City – this is a lot worse.
Our team has two games left and that will conclude our trip to the Dominican. It has been a big blessing in my life to come down, play baseball, and share the word of God to the locals down here. I am thankful that God was able to give me the chance to witness to them and tell them the good news of Jesus Christ. We have saved a lot of people this week and hopefully we can get people to become followers of Christ.
