Before you head out the door to attend school, you better take another glance in the mirror at what you're wearing. Come to class wearing the district's banned clothing and you might find yourself sitting in detention.
Banned:
•Skate tennis shoes and bedroom slippers
•Miniskirts, mini-dresses and short shorts: Hemlines shouldn't be shorter than fingertip length.
•Tops that expose the shoulder, the torso, the midriff or mid-chest area, including tube tops or blouses with spaghetti straps
•Head coverings: They are banned indoors unless required for religious observance or health-related reasons.
•Garments and jewelry that display or suggest sexual, vulgar, drug, gang, weapons or alcohol-related wording or graphics or which provoke violence or disruption in school
•Wallet chains
•Pajamas and undergarments worn as outer garments
Other rules:
•Shoes must be worn.
•Flip-flop style shoes are OK in middle and high school.
•Underwear should not be visible.
•Pants and shorts must be secured at the waist.
•Boys' shirts must have sleeves.
•Hair must be clean and neatly groomed.
The complete dress code policy is listed in the district's student handbooks.
If the dress code is violated:
First offense: Student could be asked to change clothes and parents may be notified.
Second offense: Student could land in detention.
Third offense: Possible in-school suspension.
More than three: Out-of-school suspension is possible.
