Whether students need help for a minor learning disorder or care for a severe physical disability, the Hillsborough County School District offers a range of Exceptional Student Education programs.
Families wanting more information about the district's ESE process should follow these steps:
•For general questions about ESE services, go to www1.sdhc.k12.fl.us/~ese.dept/index.htm or call (813) 273-7221.
•Families will need to get children tested through the Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System, a government agency that collaborates with school districts and other agencies to get each student the proper assistance. For a screening of children age 5 or younger, call (813) 837-7723. For this year's developmental screening schedule, go to www.sdhc.k12.fl.us and click on Calendars and Schedules.
•Once a child is determined to be eligible for ESE, an individual education plan is developed. Then the child is placed in the closest school that offers the necessary services.
