Cost For Lunch: $2.25 for elementary students; $2.75 for middle and high school students
Free Breakfast: Every day, for all students, regardless of income
Sample Breakfast Items: Chicken and biscuit, whole-grain cereal, French toast sticks, eggs, grits and biscuit, low-fat yogurt parfaits with layers of homemade granola and fruit
Free Lunch: About half of families qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on family income.
How To Qualify: Applications are mailed to homes during the summer and available at schools all year.
Sample Lunch Items: Whole-grain pizza, beef burger, spaghetti and meatballs, popcorn chicken, buffalo strips, chef salad, Greek salad
A La Carte Items: Cookies, frozen juice bars, baked chips, whole fruit, fruit juice, chicken tenders
New On The Menu: No trans-fats; Asian bowl, spicy chicken sandwich, mini-burgers in middle and high schools; a new grilled chicken patty for all schools; individual pizzas for elementary students; whole-grain and vegetarian calzones, small corn-on-the cob at all schools.
Carbonated Beverages: Not sold in elementary schools. Some middle and two high schools have also chosen not to sell carbonated beverages to students.
Lost Or Forgotten Lunch Money: Elementary students get a regular meal for five days. If charges are unpaid, they get a cheese sandwich, milk and fruit cup.
