Tampa Man Charged With Battering His 71-Year-Old Mother

TAMPA - A 45-year-old man is accused of punching his 71-year-old mother several times over the past few months and threatening to cut her into pieces with a hacksaw, an affidavit states.

Avilio Diaz of Tampa also told his mother he would burn down the house with her in it, an affidavit states.

Diaz was being held without bail today at Orient Road Jail. He is charged with felony battery on a person older than 65 and misdemeanor assault.

The affidavit does not state what spurred the beatings. The document said the mother had been struck in the head and arms and suffered bruises.
