TAMPA - Florida Highway Patrol troopers are seeking information about two cars that might have been racing Wednesday night shortly before a third car struck and killed a woman crossing West Hillsborough Avenue.
Wanda Ivette Moulier, 39, was crossing the eastbound lanes of Hillsborough Avenue near Webb Road in Town 'N Country about 8:40 p.m. when she stepped in the inside lane in front of a 2004 Mazda, troopers said.
The Mazda's driver, Adam T. Robles, 20, of Tampa, has not been charged and the investigation is continuing, said Sgt. Steve Gaskins, a highway patrol spokesman.
Gaskins said today that the Mazda was speeding, "possibly to catch up to the other two cars, but not declared as racing."
The other vehicles were "racing/traveling at high speed," Gaskins wrote in an e-mail.
The only description troopers have of the other cars is that one is black and the other is white or gray. Anyone with information should call Cpl. Frank Burke at (813) 632-6859 or (813) 631-4020.
