TAMPA - Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are watching three tropical disturbances, two in the Atlantic Ocean and one in the Gulf of Mexico.
The disturbance in the Gulf and one in the Atlantic may become tropical depressions today or next week.
An area of low pressure in the north central Gulf is moving slowly west or west southwest and conditions are mildly favorable for it to develop, the hurricane center said. Its winds are just over 30 mph.
Pressure dropped overnight and thunderstorm activity increased this morning, forecasters said.
A hurricane hunter aircraft is scheduled to fly through the disturbance later today.
Forecast track models show it continuing to head away from Florida toward Texas.
The disturbance in the Atlantic with the most potential for development is about 800 miles from the Caribbean Sea and moving generally west at about 15 to 20 mph. The disturbance is entering an area that is only marginally favorable for it to become better organized, forecasters said.
The second disturbance in the Atlantic is about 800 miles east of the Cape Verde Islands. Forecasters said this tropical wave has less than a 20 percent chance of developing into a tropical storm or depression.
