NEW PORT RICHEY - A 37-year-old Port Richey woman was charged Friday with child abuse, drug possession and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit after she lit up a marijuana cigarette outside a grocery store, police said.
Police said Lisa Ann Rost of 6814 Sandra Drive, Port Richey, was sitting in the front passenger seat with two children in the back seat of a vehicle parked in a fire lane of the Sweetbay grocery store at 6542 Massachusetts Ave. shortly before 6:30 p.m.
An officer saw Rost lighting what looked like a marijuana cigarette, police said. The officer grabbed the cigarette and conducted a field test, which showed it was marijuana.
Rost was supposed to be watching the children while their mother shopped in the store. A subsequent search showed that Rost was carrying in her purse a pipe used to smoke marijuana, methadone pills, a metal vial with seven oxycodone pills for which she had no prescription and a butterfly knife, police said.
The children were released to their mother.
Rost was being held Saturday at the Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $15,650.
