NEW PORT RICHEY - A 46-year-old teacher in Pasco County with three children in her van was charged Friday with child neglect and endangerment and driving under the influence.
Tina Rametta Adams of 19518 Lake Osceola Lane, Odessa, was stopped on Little Road for erratic driving at 11:58 a.m., according to Pasco County sheriff's reports. After a deputy indicated she should pull over, Adams continued driving her 2002 Honda Odyssey van for about a mile, sometimes swerving, and then stopped in the middle lane. As she tried to get out, she fell to the ground. The van rolled back toward the patrol car before the deputy was able to engage the emergency brake, according to reports.
Three children in the back seat were crying and told investigators they were afraid they would get in an accident "because Mommy almost hit cars and drove into the grass middle," according to reports. Adams admitted to taking Oxycodone, Prozac and three other painkillers and anti-anxiety drugs, reports said.
Adams was released just before midnight Friday from the Land O' Lakes Jail on $5,250 bail.
Pasco Superintendent of Schools Heather Fiorentino said Saturday that teachers charged with crimes are put on leave with pay until the issue can be brought before the school board and the district has a chance to investigate. Adams' teaching assignment was not readily available.
