MONTREAL - Canadian road racer Ron Fellows splashed his way to victory Saturday in the first NASCAR points event run on grooved rain tires, winning when heavy rain and poor visibility forced officials to end the race 26 laps early.
The 48-year-old Ontario driver, a four-time winner in Nationwide Series road-course events, took advantage of Marcos Ambrose's pit-road speeding penalty to take the lead, and had a 33-second advantage against fellow Canadian Patrick Carpentier when the NAPA Auto Parts 200 was red-flagged, then called a few minutes later.
David Reutimann of Zephyrhills finished 18th in his Toyota. He finished one lap off the lead lap, winning $33,050.
FORMULA ONE: Lewis Hamilton claimed the pole position for today's Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. The McLaren driver set a fastest lap of 1 minute, 20.899 seconds for his 10th career pole.
FASCAR: Veteran David Rogers of Orlando won the FASCAR Super Late Model 125 at Lakeland's USA International Speedway in the final event to be contested at the banked three-quarter-mile paved oval, which has been sold for industrial development.
Jerry Colangelo, Travis Cope, Clearwater's Billy Mowery and Wayne Anderson rounded out the top five. Current FASCAR points leader Brian Finney finished sixth.
Thirty-two of Florida's best Super Late Model drivers contested the second leg of the Florida Triple Crown Series.
