TAMPA - A teenager was charged with DUI involving serious bodily injury after the car he was driving hit a utility pole and seriously injured himself and three passengers, police said. One of them later died at Tampa General Hospital.
Shawn Walker, 19, of 2004 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa, also is charged with driving with a suspended license, police said.
Walker was driving a 1995 Pontiac Sunbird about 4:30 a.m. when he lost control of the car at E. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North 29th Avenue, police said. Three people were ejected from the car and one was trapped in the rear seat.
All four were taken to Tampa General Hospital. Edelmiro Alvarez, 42, of Seffner, was placed on life-support but died this afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said. The other three are being treated at the hospital for injuries that are not life-threatening, Davis said.
