HUDSON - A 23-year-old woman was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury Saturday after hitting a pedestrian on U.S. 19, authorities said.
Kristen Michele Jannazzo, of 3156 Banyan Hill Lane, Land O' Lakes, was arrested shortly after 11 p.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jannazzo drove into the west shoulder of U.S. 19 south of Sea Pine Drive, hit a woman and then drove away.
The pedestrian, who was not identified, was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point for treatment. Information about her condition was not available.
Witnesses told investigators they saw Jannazzo hit the pedestrian, drive off and then pull over at Prestige Mobile Homes, where she got out the passenger-side door and tried to conceal the license plate.
A witness confronted Jannazzo and told her she had hit a pedestrian, according to reports. A passenger then got out of the car and switched places with Jannazzo, getting into the driver's seat.
The passenger drove the vehicle into a drainage ditch, where it got stuck.
Jannazzo told investigators she takes oxycodone, alprazolam and soma - painkillers and anti-anxiety drugs. She said her passenger told her to "Go, go, go!" after she hit the pedestrian, so she did not stop to see if the woman was all right.
Jannazzo was being held at the Land O' Lakes Jail Sunday, with bail set at $10,000.
