Regarding "Iorio: It's Train Time For Tampa" (front page, July 31):
The time to diversify our transit system has long since arrived. The need for a diverse transportation network will not disappear, regardless of how often we widen Interstate 275. Rail is a vitally important part of it; however, we must invest in a reliable and efficient bus system, both for local routes and regional transport, to work in conjunction with rail.
I'd be agreeable to paying my fair share for a local system that, if planned intelligently with other communities and with a regional concept to build into, will give those who can't easily afford $4+ per gallon gas a real alternative.
Hopefully, TBARTA and the mayor can work together on the details and start this important concept on its way to becoming a reality - the sooner the better.
