TAMPA - The state Department of Transportation is asking motorists to avoid the intersection of Habana Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard until at least Thursday afternoon because of a hole in the intersection.
Workers have closed a westbound left turn lane onto Habana from MLK, and all southbound traffic from Habana is being diverted onto MLK, agency spokeswoman Kristen Carson said.
Carson said the hole is about 2 feet across but appears to be about 5 feet wide beneath the pavement. Workers were not sure whether the hole is a sinkhole or a busted pipe has caused the problem, she said.
Carson expects repairs to be completed by rush hour Thursday.
