Tasty Morsels On TV This Week
"Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares," 6 p.m. today, BBC America
If we were forced to choose, we'd say this is the show that best showcases chef Gordon Ramsay's non-screaming, non-insulting talents as a restaurateur. In this episode, he attempts to help a restaurant called The Granary in rural Hampshire, England, which is intimidating its customers and losing $8,000 a week in profit.
"Food Network Challenge," 7 tonight, Food Network
Five chefs compete for $10,000 at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival in Miami Beach. The challenge: to cook foods that celebrate Miami's cultural heritage - which, given the area's diversity, could include everything from corned beef sandwiches on rye to fried Santeria chicken. We're guessing probably not the latter.
China Marathon, 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Travel Channel
To mark the start of the Beijing Olympics, the channel is re-running a barrage of food and travel shows filmed in China, including "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations," "Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern" and "Samantha Brown: Passport to China." With Bourdain, you get cultural immersion through food. With Zimmern, you get a flavor for strange and exotic cuisine. And with Brown, you get a lot of smiles and khaki-colored pedal pushers.
"A Haunting: The Wheatsheaf Horror," 2 p.m. Monday, Discovery Channel
The staff of an English pub discovers their building is haunted by the spirit of a mischievous little girl. Trying to contact her, they instead unleash the ghost of her killer and must decide whether to risk their lives to save her soul. Bummer.
