SAN ANTONIO - A Pasco County Sheriff's Office deputy was injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Jeffrey E. Tanner, 47, of Land O' Lakes was on his way to work about 4:25 p.m. Tuesday when his sheriff's office cruiser began to "yaw" as he traveled west on St. Joe Road near Matt Barthle Road, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
The 2007 Impala rotated clockwise, went off the road and hit a utility pole. The left side of the car then hit a large metal garbage container. The car rolled onto its right side and struck a barbed wire fence, the highway patrol stated. The vehicle stopped on the north shoulder of the road on its right side and was facing northeast.
Residents reported power outages because of damage to the utility pole.
Tanner complained of neck and back injuries, sheriff's office spokesman Doug Tobin said in a news release. He was taken by medical helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. The highway patrol described his injuries as "serious."
The highway patrol is investigating.
