TAMPA - There is a $1,000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person who stabbed an officer in the neck on July 26.
Officer Ryan Culbertson was responding to a disturbance call in the North Boulevard Homes housing complex, said Tampa Police Department spokeswoman Andrea Davis. After dealing with that call, he saw a large group of people at Oregon Avenue and Chestnut Street. After calling for backup, Culbertson tried to arrest Mario Williams. Culbertson had one of Williams' wrists handcuffed when someone attacked him from behind, Davis said.
When backup arrived, they found Culbertson bleeding from the neck. He was dazed and had trouble recalling the incident, Davis said. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was treated for a broken jaw and 10 stitches were used to close the neck wound.
Williams and the person who stabbed the officer fled, Davis said. Police arrested Williams, 25, of 2317 W. Saint Conrad St., two days later on charges of fleeing custody and obstructing or opposing an officer, Davis said.
