LARGO - Evidence taken from a mobile home where a 76-year-old woman was found dead has linked the woman's 40-year-old husband to the slaying, Largo police said early this morning.
Joseph Wayne Keeler has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, Largo police Lt. Mike Loux said in a news release.
Keeler's wife, Rita Lisa Keeler, had lacerations on her head and neck, Loux said. Blood evidence from the Keelers' home at the Blue Skies Mobile Home Park, 614 Woodrow Ave. N.W., linked Joseph Keeler to the killing, investigators said.
Joseph Keeler gave investigators false and contradictory statements when he was questioned, Loux said.
On Wednesday, Keeler told police that he discovered his wife dead inside the mobile home. Keeler went to a neighbor's house to call 911.
Keeler was taken to Pinellas County Jail early today. Booking information was not immediately available.
