Regarding "Judge Rejects Challenges To Voucher Amendments" (Metro, Aug. 5):
The political vitriol directed by the head of the Florida Education Association at political opponents of the Democratic Party highlights the risks associated with eliminating parental choice from the education system.
Andy Ford's comments were strictly political, and while he went to great pains to criticize Jeb Bush and Florida Republicans, he was utterly silent on the topics of education quality and teacher accountability.
The empirical data establishes that Florida's public schools are a failure, and that failure seems resistant to increased funding. The teachers union is strictly a financially driven interest group that abhors competition, and would consign another generation of children to educational failure.
