ZEPHYRHILLS - The American Cancer Society and Zephyrhills Fire Rescue Cadets will benefit from Saturday's Trash and Treasures sale, which will take place 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the inactive Fire Station No. 2, 38410 Sixth Ave. across from City Hall in Zephyrhills.
Hosted by Zephyrhills Fire Rescue Cadet Post 650, the sale will feature an array of clothing, household goods and recreational items.
"My grandma used to say, 'If you don't want it, someone else has got to have it,'
" said Capt. Ralph Velez, lead cadet adviser at Zephyrhills Fire Rescue.
This marks the second Trash and Treasures sale, which typically feature donated items such as clothing, microwaves, camp stoves, power tools, golf clubs, clothes, puzzles, games and televisions.
The sales were started at the suggestion of Assistant Fire Chief Glen Clegg as a means of raising money for the American Cancer Society.
"It's a good charity," Velez said. "The cadets have been donating stuff to help raise money."
The first sale generated $1,500 for the cadets; this year proceeds will be split between the American Cancer Society and the effort of Zephyrhills fire cadets to fund an upcoming training trip.
"Next year in Chicago, we want to go to National Fire Explorers training at the University of Illinois," Velez said.
The public is welcome to contribute items to the sale and can drop them off between 9 a.m. and noon through today at the fire station.
People who want to arrange for items to be picked up, or who want to drop off items after noon, can call (813) 780-0041.
