A Pinellas County deputy and two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals after a two-vehicle crash this afternoon in Seminole, according to the sheriff's office.
The 1:52 p.m. wreck occurred at Seminole Boulevard and 70th Avenue.
Deputy Jason Schein, 34, was heading south on Seminole in an unmarked 2003 Dodge Intrepid when he witnessed a traffic violation at Seminole and 70th, a sheriff's office news release states.
Schein, who has been with the office since November 2000, activated his siren and lights. He slowly cut across Seminole, to the right, trying to conduct a traffic stop, according to the release.
Two vehicles heading south in the center lane stopped to let Schein cross, but as he reached the right lane, a 2000 Chevy Malibu struck the right side of his vehicle, deputies said.
That vehicle was driven by Lois Roth Hathaway, 81, of Largo. Her passenger was 92-year-old Fred Coticchio of St. Petersburg. They were taken by ambulance to Largo Medical Center.
Schein also was taken to the medical center.
An investigation was ongoing, according to the release.
