TAMPA - A Hillsborough County deputy's actions during a fire in a garage this morning helped protect at least one person from harm, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokesman Ray Yeakley said.
The deputy went to a nearby home trying to alert people the fire might be coming their way, Yeakley said.
The blaze occurred about 2:30 a.m. today in the 6200 block of Falkenburg Road, east of Tampa.
Deputy James Woods came out to the scene to help, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
Woods could not immediately be reached for comment.
"A lot of people have the mentality of moth to a flame and go to the fire," Yeakley said. "This person had the presence of mind to go to the home and alert them. By his actions, by doing that, that frees us up. That's one less thing we have to do by going there."
