Polk Deputies: Man In Fleeing Stolen Truck Dies In Crash

A man died this morning after the stolen truck he was in crashed into a tree at Old Bartow Road in Winter Haven, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Casey Wade Sparks of 1254 15th St., Sarasota, died at the scene. The driver of the truck, Jessica L. Sparks, 27, also of 1254 15th St., Sarasota, was taken by medical helicopter to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.
According to deputies, this is what happened about 3:52 a.m.:
Deputies noticed a white 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup going east on Eloise Loop Road. The truck matched the description of a stolen vehicle. Deputies pursued the truck, which sped away, but lost sight of the vehicle.
Two minutes later, around a hairpin curve on Old Bartow Road, deputies saw that the truck had hit a tree head-on.
Deputies said an initial medical test showed methamphetamine in Jessica Sparks' system.
