Polk Deputies Think Lakeland Deaths Are Murder-Suicide

An argument escalated into gunfire at a Lakeland home this morning, killing two women, authorities say.

A woman who resides at 3883 Horizon Hill Drive called 911 at about 10 a.m. and reported a roommate, Sherry Licari, 42, was arguing with her girlfriend, Claribel Callazo, 40, of 5201 Dorman Drive, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Department. The women were in Licari's bedroom behind a locked door.

The caller then heard gunshots and broke into the bedroom, police said, where she found Licari wounded by gunshots and Callazo dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Licari was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and later pronounced dead. Exact causes of death will be determined by autopsy.
