Clearwater Woman Faked Robbery, Shot Self, Police Say

CLEARWATER - A woman was hospitalized after shooting herself while trying to stage a home invasion robbery today in the Countryside area, police said.
Jackie London was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa with superficial injuries, Clearwater public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Daly-Watts said.
Early reports indicate the woman is in her 40s.
Police responded to a report of a possible home invasion at 2935 Atwood Drive about 1 p.m. They set up a perimeter and searched the area with police dogs and a helicopter, with no results.
Later, detectives determined that the gunshot was self-inflicted. They said London staged the home invasion robbery to cover up financial problems.
The home belongs to Jeffery and Jackie London, according to Pinellas County property records.
