CLEARWATER - State fire marshal investigators wrapped up their inspection of the burned-out Aerosonic Corp. building today, but it could take months to determine what caused the fire, spokesman Sam Venzeio said.
Investigators determined the fire began in the northeast corner of the building, but testing on evidence from the scene must be completed before a cause can be determined, Venzeio said.
A team of investigators spent nearly two days combing through the 40,000-square-foot building at 1212 N. Hercules Ave. that erupted in flames about 11:30 p.m. Friday. The plant, used to assemble aircraft equipment, stored a variety of chemicals that set off periodic explosions as 75 firefighters tried to bring it under control.
The inspection effort was delayed earlier while environmental officials tested the air quality and the area to make sure it was safe.
